Bathurst Changes People Moffat 1-2 Tee
The 1977 Hardie-Ferodo 1000 at Bathurst produced one of the most iconic moments in Australian motorsport history. Driving the dominant Ford XC Falcon GS500 Hardtops, Allan Moffat and co-driver Jacky Ickx controlled the race, while teammates Colin Bond and Alan Hamilton ran close behind. As they approached the finish, Moffat slowed on the final lap, allowing Bond to draw alongside, and the two Falcons crossed the finish line side-by-side in a perfectly choreographed Ford 1–2 formation finish.
The image of the two blue Falcons sweeping across the line together has become one of the most famous photographs in Australian racing history. It symbolised Ford's complete dominance at Mount Panorama and cemented Allan Moffat's legacy as one of Bathurst's greatest drivers. More than four decades later, the 1977 Bathurst 1–2 finish remains one of the defining moments of the Great Race and one of the most celebrated finishes in touring car racing history.
