Porsche 908 Long Tail 24HR Le Mans Tee

The Porsche 908 Long Tail (908 LH) was Porsche's answer to the high-speed demands of the 24 Hours of Le Mans in the late 1960s. Designed around the new 3.0-litre prototype regulations, the 908 LH featured an ultra-lightweight chassis, a naturally aspirated flat-eight engine producing around 350 hp, and an elongated, low-drag "Langheck" body that allowed it to reach speeds of over 320 km/h (200 mph) on the Mulsanne Straight. Its combination of aerodynamic efficiency, reliability, and exceptional handling made it one of the finest endurance racers of its generation.

The Porsche 908 LH's greatest Le Mans performance came in 1969, when Gérard Larrousse and Hans Herrmann came within 120 metres of overall victory in what remains one of the closest finishes in Le Mans history. After 24 hours of racing, the JW Automotive Ford GT40 of Jacky Ickx and Jackie Oliver narrowly overtook the Porsche on the final lap to win by just seconds, leaving the 908 LH to finish 2nd overall. Although it never claimed an outright Le Mans victory, the 908's heroic performance paved the way for Porsche's dominance with the 917, which secured the marque's first overall win just one year later.
