Supermarine Spitfire Tee
Supermarine Spitfire Mk IV
The Supermarine Spitfire Mk IV was a pivotal step in the evolution of the Spitfire. As the first Spitfire designed to fly with the powerful Rolls-Royce Griffon engine. Although it remained an experimental prototype and never saw operational combat, the Mk IV proved the viability of the Griffon-powered design, directly leading to legendary late-war Spitfire variants such as the Mk XII, Mk XIV, and Mk XVIII. Its development helped ensure the Spitfire remained competitive against the Luftwaffe's most advanced fighters during the final years of World War II, making the Mk IV one of the most important milestones in the aircraft's evolution.
